ABA Announces Delayed/ Shortened Season

Now some of you might be thinking what is the ABA? The ABA also known as the american basketball association is a semi professional basketball league in the United States. Your Jacksonville Giants have been dominating this league for the past decade winning 6 championships! This past season for the Jacksonville Giants was unfortunately suspended right before the playoffs and now their upcoming season will be delayed and scheduled to start on January 2nd, 2021.

One thing the ABA did say in their social media post is “However, teams that have venues, players, and community/ government approval and which follow all of the prevailing health guidelines, and have ABA teams to play, can start earlier than Jan 2nd and the games will count”.

So is it possible we will be able to have Jacksonville Giants games before January 2nd? Yes, but my gut feeling is saying no unless drastic changes occur to the amount of new cases of coronavirus cases here in Florida. Overall this delay in the season seems almost surprising, and unfortunate due to the fact that their season wouldn’t have even started until November. What does this mean for the other sports leagues like the NFL that is supposed to be starting their season next month? Or the Jacksonville Icemen who are scheduled to start in October. Hopefully we get sports back to normal soon!
